bàlay Vandyke is the coming together of two prominent Cairns based building design studios, bàlay building design & Chris Vandyke Designs.
Sean Reason & Cris Beswick collectively worked at Chris Vandyke Designs for 20 years where they brought a wealth of project related experience with the design, documentation & management of a multitude of high end residential & educational projects throughout Australia and the South Pacific.
Matt Piromalli established bàlay Building Design Pty Ltd in 2004 and spent the past 15 years in his own business offering creative & customised design solutions for a variety of residential & commercial projects in North Queensland & PNG.
The team strategically placed in the same building as their structural engineer has proven to be indispensable to the design process outcomes of 'constructability' & building to a budget.
Our approach is to provide a very personal and tailored response to each and every project, through a collaboration of ideas between designer & client.
With a commitment to excellence and taking pride in the work that we produce, bàlay Vandyke's focus is to provide our clients with good design, quality documentation and a memorable service at an affordable price.
Matt is the team’s Designer and represents Far North QLD on the state management committee of the Building Designer’s Association. Before moving to Cairns and establishing bàlay Building Design in 2004, Matt lived in the Whitsundays where he worked casually as a contract designer, leaving plenty of time for his other passion sailing.
Matt takes an artful approach to each project and brings a unique balance of artistic ability and advanced 3D computer technology to each design. Matt's designs are influenced by the interplay of indoor and outdoor spaces and are created by combining his freehand sketch skills with a broad construction knowledge of our tropical region. Matt’s wide-ranging experience across many council areas, with sites of varying constraints and opportunities, has prepared him to deal with any design challenge.
Sean is the team’s Project Manager with considerable experience in establishing client requirements to form the basis of a given project, assembling consultant teams, detailing project specifications, competitively tendering & contract management on behalf of our clients throughout the construction stage.
His background extends from government where he worked for over 16 years with the Royal Australian Engineers in a project management and design office, through to working the past 12 years at Chris Vandyke Designs.
He thrives on challenges and enjoys bringing projects in on time and within budget.
With a multitude of skill sets he brings to the office, Sean is also a licensed building designer and permaculture design consultant.
Cris is our Architectural Technician with international degrees from the UK in Architecture and Urban Design.
Cris worked at Chris Vandyke Designs for 9 years where he crafted his structural documentation skills by preparing construction drawings for some of North Queensland's most unique buildings.
Cris brings a high level of experience in 3D modelling, BIM technology & realism visualisations.
His experience extends to the use of many software programs, providing our clients with a superior presentation experience.
Ella provides administrative support and manages the financial accounts for our office.
She is a qualified book-keeper and previously worked for 7 years as the Accounts Manager at balay Building Design.
Along with providing the company with project and financial reports, Ella is also a Commissioner for Declarations.
